Greece, also known as Hellas, is a country in south-eastern Europe. Greece has land borders with Albania, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of mainland Greece, the Ionian Sea to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Greece has the twelfth longest coastline in the world featuring a vast number of islands including Crete, the Dodecanese, the Cyclades, and the Ionian Islands among others. Athens is the capital and the largest city in the country (its urban area also including Piraeus). Other big cities are Thessaloniki, Patra, Heraklion, Chania Larissa (the capital of Thessaly) etc.

The range of ground morphology of Greece is one of its specialities, high mountains as Olympus (2.917 m) in the area of Thessaly, Pindos mountain chain, divides the country in two parts from North to South in all its length, but also islands mountains as (Psiloritis 2.456m) in Crete and Kyllini in Peloponnesus (2.376m) on the one side and the endless sea-shore of 15.000 km on the other, create a very rare scene of beauty, unique in the world.

Climatologically, Greece has a mild Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers and sunshine winters. As an exception, the North parts of the country have a slightly colder winter and summer.
